MS Office Pro not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've just received a notification that my copy of MS Office Pro 2007 is not a genuine licence.  I've run the diagnostic tool which gives the details (see below).  I purchased this product as a genuine copy with licence from an on-line retailer.  What do I do now please?

  • Hello EN2009,

Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

The Office Professional Plus 2007 installed on your computer is an edition of Office that is properly sold only thru the Volume Licensing program to businesses, educational institutions and governmental agencies.  This installation was done with an invalid Product Key made by a pirating program known as a Key Generator.  The product key was NOT issued by Microsoft, making it Invalid.

If your use of the installed Office Professional Plus 2007 is in association with a business, educational institution, or governmental agency that might have a Volume Licensing Agreement with Microsoft, please report this nongenuine problem to your organization's IT support staff for further troubelshooting and resolution.

If you are an individual consumer, you should never have been sold Volume Licensing materials such as a VL disc, and you certainly should not have received an Invalid Product Key.  Quite often people purchase online and at popular auction sites what is advertised and packaged as a retail license for Office Professional 2007, but all too often, the product they receive is a counterfeit Office package that installs a nongenuine copy of Office Professional Plus 2007.  This would seem to be the situation in your case.

Your first course of action is to confront your seller with this information and demand either a full refund or to receive the genuine software you paid for.  If the seller refuses to help, please pursue whatever remedies are available to you thru the selling venue, your payment method (credit card, PayPal, etc), or the legal system in your area.

Also, depending upon whether you received "high quality" counterfeit materials, you may qualify for the Office Complimentary Offer or for the Office Genuine Advantage discounted offer.  Please see the FAQ here:  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EKNAC  If you decide to participate in the Office Genuine Offer, please initiate the process by clicking on the "Learn More Online" link shown in the nongenuine notices on your screen.

  • Hello

Thank you for your response.  I shall be contacting the company who we purchased this from to find out what they are going to do about it.  Yes, we are in individual user.

I'm surprised to learn this information.  The box, CD, book, certification of authenticity and product key licence lable all look like our XP software (which is genuine).  So I've assumed (wrongly) this was legitimate software and licence.  If this is a pirate copy then it is an extremely good one and I would guess fool a lot of people.

    Thanks
