Time Zone selection in the new platform forums RRS feed

  • Question

  • I work with the Windows Genuine Advantage forums for Windows XP and Office as well as the OneCare forums.
Under the OneCare forums, I am able to select the timezone under my profile, edit profile, timezone.

With the WGA/OGA forums, where can I select my timezone?  or does selecting the time zone under the platform for OneCare
    take care of that?

    Thank you,

    Lori MS

  • The new forums platform does all of its time conversions from UTC on the client side in Javascript, so the times shown should be the same as your machine.

  • mattfras,

Hmm...ok, I qc the windows genuine advantage and office genuine advantage forums but we have a group in Manila who logs all the posts so they are in a different time zone.  When I look at the time on the forums (8:00AM to 5:00PM PST) against the time that they log as the initial time of the post, it is different.  If we are on the same UTC time, wouldn't we see the same thing? I'm a little confused.

With OneCare forums (new platform), I am seeing the initial time that they posted on the log files and the forums in synch but not the WGA and OGA forums.

  • Are your computers set on the same time zone? The time shown on the post is all based upon the machine's local time zone setting.

  • I believe that the local machine times are different. But under the OneCare forums (old platform) there is a setting under edit profile so that a person who is in Manila that is logged in and a person in the US that is logged in, can edit their profile to see UTC time in the forums.

  • What I'm saying is that the new forums don't have a timezone setting. It always shows local time (whatever your computer is set at).

  • I don't think there's been any sort of resolution to this, even two years later.

These forums do *not* show my local time, they appear to show EST. (At least for me. And I am nowhere *near* EST.)

I think it would be more convenient for people to be able to set their own time zone under "profile."

Is there a reason why it's not this way?
