XP Home edition network problems from hell RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello XP Guru's,

I am setting up a small office network. All are PC's using XP Home. I have them connected via a linksis wireless router. 2 systems are hardwired and 2 will be wireless. I am currently using the 2 hardwired for testing. Both are connected to the internet with no problems.

I ran the setup wizard on each system, turning on file and printer sharing. I designated a common workgroup name. When I went to look at the users in the group, I can see the other system. When I click on it , I get " you might not have permission to use this network resource: contact admin to find out if you have access permissions" and also " the network path was not found" Also, upon restart, the workgroup name defaults back to MSHOME.

Both systems are logged in as admins. The new desktop sees the other system but not vice versa.

Lordy, do i need some help here. I have tried over and over and get nowhere.

  • Have a look at the article below.  Might be all or part of the solution.

  • Hi

Hope you have had some success.  I had same problems.  Between the articles I sent you the links for and a bit of persevering the final part was to disable ntl netguard's firewall.  The blocked packets log showed 2 computers had been trying to access the third one and were getting blocked.  Now I am checking to see if my router is OK without ntl's firewall on.
