Large system size after primary drive replacement RRS feed

  • Question

  • My primary drive was dying, so I replaced it. The original was a 1TB drive, but since I couldn't actually use any of that space (it's taken up by System), I decided to replace it with a cheaper, faster 500GB drive. However, after reinstalling WHS and doing the system restore thing, the System part has grown back to the size it used to be under the old system: ~1TB. This took about 5 minutes. This means that it is now taking up space on drives that aren't the primary drive. What's odd is that the name of the primary drive is the same as the name of the original one, even though it's from a different drive manufacturer with a different serial number. The SMART addon is able to correctly name the drive, but WHS doesn't see the new name. It does give the drive's size correctly, though. How do I fix this? How do I get my memory back?
