Using Money for multiple entities. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to have two distinct applications of money plus one for company "A" and one for company "B".

Can this be done or do they both have to co-exist under one instance of Money Plus?

If it is possible to create separate instances how do you do it?

  • Rather than calling your data file My Money.mny use names like Company A.mny and Company B.mny and get in the habit of clicking on a shortcut to those files rather than on the shortcut to Money Plus.   Opening the Money program always opens up the last file opened, so if you do open up the program and the wrong file has opened, in the upper left you'll see File and you can open up the alternative file.   Keep in mind that with either method, you'll have to be aware that you're going to have backup files with both names.

  • When doing this George, it is up to you to make sure the backup files are named differently. This would only be a problem if you created the files by copying a common file to different names. That would change the filename, but it would not change the backup file name.

To easily switch between companies once you have opened each file previously, you can use the list at the bottom of the menu you get when you click File in the upper left of Money.
