Where is "My Network Places" in Windows 7? RRS feed

    My question is simple to answer, I believe.

    I'm using the Windows7Beta (activated) now. I migrated from Windows XP. My favorite part about XP was the "My Network Places" where I could very easily setup a FTP folder for each of my websites (and client websites). It saved me an astonishing amount of time.

    In Windows 7 there is no such folder or option. Can someone, please explain to me as to how to get "My Network Places" back? I'm starting to fall behind and very tempted to move back to WindowsXP because of it.

    Hi,

    IMBart isn't understanding your question.  This is one of the first "issues" I found when starting to use Vista and now Windows 7.    Yep, they've kind of hidden it, but it's not hard to find once you know where to look.

    Click "Start" (now called the Pearl), then click Computer.  You're now in 'My Computer/Explorer'.

    Right-click Computer, and click "Add a network location".    Voila.

    My Network Place has been replaced by "Network". To make it visiable do so: right click on desktop - choose Personalize - and from new Windows / right column select "change desktop icons". So, from the possition you will have option to which icons make enable on desktop. Do so, and done.

    Found the answer elsewhere.

     In Windows7 (never used Vista), all I had to do was open any folder and type the ftp://Website link in the address bar and it did as needed. Prompted for the logIn and all works. It doesn't save the folders for each site as XP does, but I can live with it.

     Sorry, I found the Network folder and placed in on the Start Menu.
    My problem is actually setting up a (at least one for now) FTP under the new method of WIN7.
    I've tried reading info on the web but it seems to just confuse me.

     What I need is a Step-By-Step tutorial for setting up a FTP in Windows7 from start to finish.

    Sorry about placing this thread in the wrong section. I missed the correct section in the list. I also placed it here because I see it as a learning tool for others with the same problem come Mid October.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    As you know, setup FTP client has been changed by Microsoft on Win 7 and Vista comparing to XP. If you really look for FTP guide the best option is go Win 7 Help and in search bar type FTP. It will show exactly way and tips to setup FTP.

    My issues was that I wanted to move all of my shortcuts from Network neighborhood on an XP machine to my new Windows 7 installation (approximately 50 of them) and I could not locate the actual place in Windows 7 where those shortcuts are kept. 

    The new location is c:\users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Network Solutions

    Navigate to that directory and drop in all your shortcuts and save your self the hassle of re-creating them all.

    I transferred files and settings from my old XP machine to this new one, running Win 7.

    Have all my stored FTP addresses been saved somewhere on the new PC, or do I now need to re-create each one?
