"This computer is not running genuine windows" RRS feed

  • Question

  • My computer (desktop, CyberPower gaming PC) has been running fine for a couple years (purchased a hard copy of Windows 7), but lately my computer has been running slow and now I just got this issue in the title. I've browsed some posts with the same issue but my error report seems to be different. Any help/solutions would be appreciated. Here is the report from MGADiag.exe

Please run the following commands, and post the results.reg query

    REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\spldr /S

    REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SPLDR /S

    REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\Legacy_SLSVC

    REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\Legacy_SPPSVC

     They may show something

(NOTE - another possible cause is Read-only Windows folders

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)

    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

These are the results. I have never used Norton on this computer, but I have used Trend Micro and McAfee.

  • The output there is normal.

If you no longer have McAfee installed, did you use their cleanup tool (MCPR.exe) after uninstalling it?

If not, please do so now...

Download the McAfee removal tool from:

    http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

Click Save, and save the file to a folder on your computer.

Navigate to the folder where you saved the file.

right-click on MCPR.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'  to run the removal tool.

    when complete, reboot.

After the reboot, open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

    NETSH WINSOCK RESET

You'll be advised to reboot - do so.

    then post another MGADiag report.
