Windows vista build 6002-This copy of windows is not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

After applying latest updates on tuesday 9th of February, the next time I rebooted my PC, I got a watermark on desktop saying that my Windows is not genuine which isn't the case. Don't know if this has anything to do with the problem but for some reason Windows wanted to run chkdsk on my external HDD when the system booted.

Also my Internet Explorer works normally, but when I go to www.microsoft.com, I get the following text:

Your current User-Agent string appears to be from an automated process, if this is incorrect, please click this link:United States English Microsoft Homepage

Anyhow, heres output from Genuine Advantage Diagnostics Tool:

    Hello Mike,

I am not seeing anything that would cause a Non-Genuine message, please first go to http://microsoft.com/genuine and click the Validate Windows button and then reboot.  If you still see the Non-genuine message, re-run the MGA Diag Tool again but be sure you only run it when the Non-Genuine message is showing (this is so I can see what is happening while the issue is occuring).  Then post that Report into this thread.

    Thank you,
    Darin MS

  • Hi Darin and thanks for the answer.

That helped and I don't see the non-genuine message anymore.

Do you have any advice concerning the IE message "Your current User-Agent string appears to be from an automated process, if this is incorrect, please click this link:United States English Microsoft Homepage" occuring when I go to www.microsoft.com? That still seems to appear. Most likely this is a different issue but they started at the same time so I think that they are somehow related.

    Thanks for your help,

    Mika

  • Hi Mika,

Never seen that error before. I recommend posting in the Internet Explorer section of the Windows Vista Answers Forum http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windowsvista.  They would probably have a better understanding of what's going there.

Thanks and glad to here your Non-genuine issue is resolved,
    Darin MS
