SyncToy Duplicate File names RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi.  I have just installed SyncToy to perform the following task....

We use software that creates zip files and stores them in several separate folders.  Each of the zip files has the same file name.  For example, there may be ten folders which each have one zip file in them called "abc.zip".  I want to use SyncToy to scan these ten folders for any newly created files and send them to one folder on a separate computer.

As I suspected, I get an error message after it tries to move the second zip file to the target folder saying that there is a file of the same name in there.  My question is: Is there a way to get SyncToy to automatically append an "a" or "b" etc onto the end of duplicate file names so that all of these files can go into one folder?  I.e. I would end up with ten zip files in the target folder called "abc", "abca", "abcb", "abcd", "abce", etc.  (Or is there another method I could use to do this task?)

    Thanks for your time,

    Lee
