encoding media for different devices and platforms RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear all,

I am struggling to understand how to design web pages and media (audio / video) for display on standard computer screens and other devices (mobile devices).

Should there be several designs of the same webpage or content for all kinds of devices? Should there be different encoded audio or video files for the different devices uploaded to a web server? If yes, is there some kind of scripts to enable the server serve up the appropriate design of the web page or encoded media for the device accessing the website? What scripts are those and how can one have them?

But, if no, how does one enable different devices optimally handle your webpage or media content when the device (computer/smartphone/tablets etc.) access your website?
