HPDiskMon Warnings in my Event Viewer RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just did a re-install of WHS on my EX470. I did a complete re-install, and then added my hard drives 1 by 1 back to the server and transferred all my files back to the server. Everything is working fine on the server, but I keep getting Information and Warning events posted in the Event Viewer every hour. They show the following:

    POST http://localhost/Webshare/servlet/NotifyQuser?username=Kris&username=Zahra&firstname=Kris&firstname=Zahra&lastname=Anderson&lastname=Sefidan&manager=False&manager=False

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Webshare user report failed: Unable to connect to the remote server

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

This doesn't appear to be causing any problems... but it fills up my Event Viewer which I don't like. I'm thinking these appear for one of two reasons.

1.) I installed Virtual Server 2005 on the WHS machine and run SBS 2003 within Virtual Server. I give SBS 2003 ports 80 and 443 (so Exchange Server works). Therefor, I had to change the default WHS ports to 8000 for HTTP, and 600 for HTTPS. With this setup I can access Exchange Server, and my Windows Home server via the web.

2.) I have a hard drive installed in the server (that my SBS 2003 VHD resides on), but it's not part of the server storage pool. I put the drive into my EX470 and then gave it a new drive letter.

I'm thinking it must be one of those two things I did, because I really haven't changed anything else on the server. It makes my think it could be #2 because the event is created by HPDiskMon (which I assume is the WHS hard drive monitor). This error may be because I added a new hard drive but didn't add it to the storage pool (like WHS expects). But then I also think it could be #1 because the warning shows shows it is unable to connect to the server (which may be port related).

Does anyone know what is causing this? I've searched the web and couldn't find an error/warning similar to what I'm getting. And if you do happen to know what could be causing it, what steps should I take to rid this from my Event Viewer?

  • It's more likely to be your reallocation of ports 80 and 443. Webshare sounds to me like the HP photo web sharing that they included on your server; it may not be able to deal with using ports other than the default.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
