  • Question

  • It seems my laptop has encountered the same problems others have today after over a years use. Thought I'd start a new thread to ensure mine did not get lost within somebody elses. Can anyone help? Any problems with the post let me know.

Ran the MGAD tool and here's the results:

I don’t honestly think we’re likely to solve this in a forum context – your best bet is to contact MS WGA support for assistance, or do a repair install of the OS

WGA Support can be found here-
    North America: http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_genadv_master?ws=support&ws=support#tab4

    Outside North America:
    http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support#tab0

Please let us know if (and how) MS manage to repair the problem without a repair install of the OS - it would be useful for future reference!

  • You are using a blocked volume license key for Office.

Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2
Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 - 114 Blocked VLK 2

As for a non-genuine Windows error, please try a system restore back to a date before the error first appeared.

What happens if you attempt Validation at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate ?
What happens at the Diagnostics site? www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag ?

Please try that, and let us know the results, and post a new MGADiag report.

I rather thought you might come back to me on something in that article – I’ve spent the intervening time bitching about it on the feedback link.

    It means the computer.

This has to be one of the worst-written KB articles I’ve ever seen – mainly because it’s written solely for users in a Domain environment attached to servers, rather than for the home user, but doesn’t spell it out properly.

I take it that you were totally scuppered as far as methods A and B are concerned?
I’ve been checking Method C against my own  test machine – and it should function as designed (whether it cures the problem is another matter)
You need to copy ALL the lines below the dash-line (------------------) to the last one
    "State"=dword:00000000
*and* include a single blank line at the end – which you cannot actually do!!

So copy it to Notepad, and add a blank line by hitting the Enter key
THEN save it as Profilelist.reg and ‘run’ it.
then reboot and see what happens with activation.

    nothing has changed :/

    I rather suspected hat it wouldn’t :(

Since MS seems to be under the impression that it’s permission-related, I a fix which works in somewhat similar circumstances, which is worth trying here.

    Open WIndows Explorer
    Navigate to the Windows folder
Find teh System32 folder, and right-click on it – select Properties.
On the General page, you’ll see at the bottom, two tick-boxes, one for Read-only, and one for Hidden

The Hidden one should be blank.
The 'Read-only’ one should have a blob in it.
CLEAR the blob in the Read-Only one – by clicking on it
    then click on Apply –
you’ll get a pop-up asking if you want to apply this to the folder, subfolders, and files – say yes.
You’ll have to approve the changes as an Admin
When you get an error message ’An error occurred.....’ click the Ignore All button
Wait for a couple of minutes for it to finish,
    Click OK

then reboot, and run another MGADiag report and post the results.

I don’t honestly think we’re likely to solve this in a forum context – your best bet is to contact MS WGA support for assistance, or do a repair install of the OS

WGA Support can be found here-
    North America: http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_genadv_master?ws=support&ws=support#tab4

    Outside North America:
    http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support#tab0

Please let us know if (and how) MS manage to repair the problem without a repair install of the OS - it would be useful for future reference!
