Client computer backup

Question
-
Hi,
I have several client computers on my network. Two laptops and two desktops. The laptops never seem to completely backup as they take too many hours. I assume whs2011 can only back up one at a time. My main question concerns my main desktop. I have six drives installed but do not really need all six backed up. I never started the backup for the desktop, or the laptops for that matter, but for some reason the server decided it was going to back up the desktop without informing me. Now, it takes over a day to back up the desktop and then not all the drives complete. How can I get back into choosing what drives I want it to include in the backup for the desktop as the only option I seem to be offered now is all the drives or just stop the backup. Having said that, the server still continues to start a back up without any prompt from me. Any ideas guys?
Regards,
David

For the slow backups, connect your computers to your wired network rather than using WiFi or a power line network. For the desktop, you can run the backup configuration wizard for that computer from the dashboard and exclude some drives there if you want.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

Yes, WHS2011 only backs up one computer at a time - any subsequent systems are queued. As Ken says, wireless backup will be slow - do at least one system backup with a wired connection (common elements of subsequent systems will not need backup and will hence be quicker). As Ken has said, set up the backup again in the Dashboard and exclude any drives you don't want to be secured.

I have one wired PC, 3 wireless PC's and a laptop on my network. From the original setup on, I've always backed up the way the PC's are setup (both wired and wireless). The first night I was surprised that ALL computers were backed up during my allotted time frame from midnight to 6 AM.
Recently I was having trouble with the upstairs wireless PC either having an incomplete backup or unsuccessful backup, yet all others maintained their successful backups. Uninstalling the connector software on the upstairs PC, rebooting and reinstalling the connector software solved the problem. I'm not sure what caused the initial issue, at the same time I noticed this, I also noticed I could not log in to the server remotely any longer.
After some head scratching it dawned on me that I had, a short while back, updated the firmware on my router, the Netgear WNDR3700. My port forwards were all still there correctly, nothing made sense. To correct the remote login problem I simply deleted all my port forwards and re-added them.
Coincidence or a fluke, I did both of these on the same evening. Regardless, my remote login is now again working and my upstairs wireless PC is backing up successful again. The initial backup for the wireless PC's ranged from 200GB to 400GB. Just judging from the times shown as to when the backups were done, it didn't take much time to do all 5 computers.
