Re-Installing Win XP HE OEM Version's

I have previously formatted my PC with an OEM version of XP back in december 2006 (bought from a retailer with hardware) the PC is homebuilt, a month or so ago i changed some item's in the system start up menu (msconfig)which for some reason required me to re-activate windows as "hardware changes had occured" (the mind boggles on this one, never added or removed any hardware)), but now a month or so on I seem to have run into a few issue's with my PC and I was wondering how many time's I can reformat before having an issue with activation?
