Windows Vista won't activate despite diag showing a genuine copy. Wha???? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently had a boot-sector virus and did a clean install of Vista. During the install my product key was accepted without issue. However, I have a 30 day countdown (now 27), and when I try to activate I get an error that my code is "invalid for activation". My diag report follows. This shows my copy as genuine, but it still won't let me activate.

For some reason, your PC is unable to see the SLIC table in the BIOS which allows it to Self-Activate - this may be a result of flashing the BIOS, or because of your virus attack.
Does your machine have a COA Sticker on the case? If so, use the key from that, and the Change Product Key option on the System Properties page (If the option isn't there, click on Start, then type SLUI 3 in the Search box, and follow the instructions there).
    You'll have to telephone-activate afterwards.
