  • Question

  • I purchased an Acer Aspire 9410Z Notebook about a year ago. It came with Vista Home Premium. About a month or so ago, I was having computer issues that required my hard drive be wiped out and Vista reloaded using the Windows Anytime Upgrade disc that came with the computer. The only problem is, when it was reloaded, it was reloaded as Vista Home Basic instead of Premium by accident. (a tech savvy friend of mine did it for me as I am technically challenged). It had been working fine until a few days ago when it, out of the blue, asked me for a product key.  I entered the product key found on the bottom of the notebook but was told it was invalid. At that time I noticed that the key was for the Premium edition instead of the Basic edition.

Can I somehow reload Vista Home Premium as this is what I originally paid for with the computer?  If not, how do I get a valid product key for the Basic edition that I downloaded from the disc?

    Thanks for your help!

  • You'll have to contact Acer support and request their OEM Windows Vista recovery disc meant for your Acer computer.  The Anytime Upgrade disc does not permit the use of the OEM product key affixed to your computer.
