  • If you are using a registry cleaner, discontinue.  You need to reactivate.  Use the COA product key printed on the sticker affixed to your computer (sometimes in the battery compartment of newer laptops).  Click Start and type "slui.exe 3".  Phone activation may be required.

The product key printed on the sticker of my laptop is faded and I can't make it out, is there somewhere else I can look to get it?

Unfortunately not – use a bright light and a magnifying glass to see if you can read anything that way.

If you are unable to read the Key you have only two options.
    1) use the manufacturer’s Recovery system to set the machine back to ex-factory state – this will destroy ALL data on the machine, so back up to external media first!

    2) purchase a Retail copy of Windows 7 Home Premium from a reputable store, and use the Key from that to activate your current install.

  • No.  It is not recorded on the computer any other way.  You can contact the manufacturer to see if they have some means of helping you with the key.

See if there is a system restore point earlier than the date you first noticed the problem and try restoring to that.
