Upgrading from Home Premium to Ultimate RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello windows pro's!

I have a computer running windows 7 home premium.  I am a college student and recently purchased an upgrade DVD containing windows 7 Ultimate.  I inserted the disk and was prompted to stop installing and use windows anytime upgrade.  I opened windows anytime upgrade and entered my product key.  Then I receive the message that the key is not valid.  What's going on?

I purchased the DVD about 6 months ago..  do these things expire?

    thanks for any help,

  • If the Upgrade DVD you have is from MSDNAA/DreamSpark then it will only do a clean install - by design.

Check the DreamSpark website for details.

Note also that if the Key you have is an MAK type issued by your college, that it may have reached the activation limit and no longer be activateable.
