Several Enterpriose Pools on one SQL 2005 Server RRS feed

  • Question

Hi, I'm trying to create 4 different enterprise pools like

    1. pool1.XYZdomain.com
    2. pool2.XYZdomain.com
    3. pool3.XYZdomain.com
    4. pool4.XYZdomain.com

with OCS 2007 on 4 dedicated dispersed Front-End Servers referring to one centralized SQL 2005 server. For DRP reasons I'd like to seperate the pools on SQL. Within the Expanded Topology installation process I only have the option to enter an instance as a separation of the database.

Then in a following step I see to "Reuse Existing Database" - If there is already a valid database on SQL Server instance that you specified, you can use it. To use the existing database, clear the check box below. To replace it with a new, empty database, select the check box."

The checkbox says "Replace any existing database".

There is no option to choose create a new SQL instance for example which I would like to see.

Is there a way to implement it in this way or do I have to have 4 dedicated SQL servers to make it happen ?

    Your Feedback is highly appreciated.

    Regards

  • Ok.. so the very first thing is Microsoft doesnt support if you have more than one pool on the single SQL server.

Second thing is that it is techincally possible. You need to create multiple instances on the SQL Server (its a SQL operation).
Once you have multiple instances, you know better!
