Clarification on using wd 4k advanced format drives as system/data drives RRS feed

  • Question

  • As it looks like i need to put me two servers back to WHS v1 i need to find out the following as the search function on this forum gives me no result

Can i use Western Digital advanced format drives as data drives ONLY

i would need to use a standard drive for the system drive

Am i correct in this assumption before i start the fresh installs

    thanks in advance

  • Install the jumper on the bare drive, before adding it to the storage pool.

  • It is not recommended to use these disks as system drive, since the jumper AFAIK only supports one volume per disk. Since the system drive has two and the necessary realignment with a tool after installing the OS may have some impact (especially, if a reinstall should be necessary), you should keep a normal drive in this position.

i have a standard 1tb wd hard drive as the system drive and 5 x 1tb wd advanced format drives set with the link on 7-8

    working fine at the moment

only issue is i am being told to update my connector software as a newer version is on the whs

but when i click the link nothing is there

checked the shared folders and the software folder is blank ;-(

downloaded the connector software from the microsoft website in the first place which shouild be the latest anyway
