SyncToy 2.1 - Exception from HRESULT: 0x80010135 = Path too long RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
I am running SyncToy 2.1 on WinXP SP3, copying files from my system drive to an USB drive.
For several files I receive an error message "Exception from HRESULT: 0x80010135".
An example of the related file path is "Fischer\Eigene Dateien\Eigene Bilder\2009-Pyrenäen Originale\Panorama Einzelbilder und Projekte\P1080926 Puerto de la Glera - Panorama vom Kamm hochkant gedreht\P1080926 Puerto de la Glera - Panorama vom Kamm hochkant gedreht_35.jpg".

I do not understand, why SyncToy has such a restriction in path length if the file system itself can handle these files without any trouble!

Is there any way to work around that problem except restructuring my files?

    Thanks,
    Jo

    Postscriptum one hour later:
I just played around with these files - obviously the file system HAS a problem with the long path, too!! The files have been created with a 3rd party software which somehow managed to store these names at that location. If I try to copy the files with WindowsExplorer, I get the same "path too long" problem.
    Thanks,
    jo

  • Hi,
do you know how to deal with this issue as I have many projects I synchronize that use more than 255 characters for their path: directories with source code mainly

    thanks in advance,
