Firefox poorly supported - Forums issue list RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm mainly using Firefox for browsing the web (this is not a particular preference, just a coincidence left over from my tests to make sure my JavaScript runs in IE and FF).

There are a couple of problems with MS Forums when using FF:

    • Approx. 50 % of the time when I'm editing a forum post there is no cursor caret visible.

This makes it very hard to edit what I'm typing. I regularly have to select a whole word to see where my insert position currently is.
    • Again, another 50 % of the time, whenever I perform an action in Forums, like "Ask a Question", "Reply" or "Mark as answer", I get presented with a new page containing just a form.

If I selected "Mark as answer" that form just contains a checkbox, a text field to enter a "Reason:" and a Send button.

If I selected one of the other two options that form contains a text area to enter HTML, an EnterResourceLabel checkbox, a "Reason:" text field and a Send button.

      I guess that's not intended, isn't it?
    • A new issue comes up since a couple of days. After logging in, whenever I open a thread, then 50 % of the time, after one or two seconds, the thread page gets redirected to a blank page with this URL: https://int.social.msdn.microsoft.com/passport?returning=1

Apart from the last error the above issues exist for more than two years now. These errors occur with any FF version on any machine I've been working with so far.

    Can someone please address these?

  • just noticed while I came to complain about something..

about Caret problem. I've noticed it wont be visible if Formatting toolbar takes time to load. In that case, just press Cancel and Post Reply again. Caret should be visible.

and you get plain html post reply page if you click Reply link before page is loaded completely.

    Thanks

  • I am browsing with UMTS/GPRS using my mobile phone.

That's why I already have typed a couple of sentences before the toolbar has loaded. I can't just cancel, I'm afraid.

Sometimes I'm not even able to receive a page's stylesheet due to a slow/broken connection. I hope MS will improve their JavaScript/page layout to support slow connections.

  • It's been updated. Should be fixed now.

    Thanks!

  • Sure, I will.

But it'll take some time... The issues didn't occur all the time. I'll need some thread to post to. Plus, I'm on vacation @home, browsing with DSL16.

But in May I'll start a new project and will presumably be facing new issues then to post them to the forums here ;)
