Precallout and Postcallout error message in SoapException RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

we have some precreate callouts where we explicitly set the errorMessage string and return PreCalloutReturnValue.Abort.

The error message we set is correctly shown in the CRM trace log and in the UI. However, when we trigger the create using the SDK web services the SoapException does not contain our error message.

I googled a bit and found others having the same problem. Is this really the default behavior? Does anybody know if there is a CRM hotfix which changes this?

    Thank you,

    Ulla

  • Unfortunately this is the way it is. CRM 3.0 is very poor at giving any context-sensitive information in the SoapException.

  • Unhandled exceptions in post callouts are written to the application event log. They will not propagate to the UI - strictly, all the UI cares about is the saving of the data, which is already complete by the time the post callout runs

  • That's a real pity.

And what about exceptions thrown in the PostCallout, why is it neither possible to see those exceptions in the UI nor in web service calls? At least the UI is waiting for the PostCallout to finish so why are those exceptions not coming threw? This is my experience anyway, should excpetions thrown in the PostCallout event be visible somewhere?

Thank you very much for your advice!

  • Hi, Ulla. Use the event view to check out the error messages. It brings you more detailed information about the callout exception!
