windows not genuine

Question
-
hi, I bought this packard bell laptop second hand a few months ago. I have the original box that clearly states Window 7 Home Edition 64 Bit preinstalled. It has the windows 7 original sticker on the keyboard area and also a barcoded sticker underneath with a hologram. It has been reset to factory settings but after 2 months it has now coming up with the warning that Windows 7 is not genuine, when everything indicates that it is. Please help.Saturday, June 18, 2011 11:27 PM

Your installation of Windows is counterfeit. It appears to be an installation from an Acer Recovery disk, which has been installed into a machine too old to be able to take the necessary SLIC table -the disk is from another machine. You need to either purchase a legitimate copy of Win 7, or revert back to the original software that came with the PC, using the Manufacturer's Recovery disks. - this will wipe ALL data from the machine, so back up first. If you don't have the appropriate recovery disks, contact PB/Acer and order a set from them.

Thank you for your info. Will try a Factory reset via the hard drive, it should have the original windows set up in a seperate partition. When I bought it I was told it had been factory reset, it even had the original 'register your new laptop' with packard bell on the desk top. Thanks anyway. Cheers.Monday, June 20, 2011 3:58 PM

Unfortunately this is an all-too-common scenario - the chances are that your reinstall will also fail for the same reason (unless it's to Vista). You will almost certainly need to contact the manufacturer for their authorised Recovery disks.
