Reinstall Vista Home Premium Activation Problem RRS feed

  • I have reinstalled Vista Home Premium onto my laptop.  I didn't have a product CD/DVD from my manufacturer so I used the install CD from my desktop.  The Product Key from the desktop version didn't work to activate and the key on the underneath of my laptop didn't work either.  Both are Vista Home Premium 32bit OSs.  It has been over a year since my purchase of this laptop and Sony wants to charge me $30 to talk about it.  Microsoft wants at least $59 for an email to talk about it.  There must be a better solution.  Any ideas?

    Note- I did swap hard drives before the reinstall from an 80BG to 320GB drive.

    Your best avenue is contacting the laptop's manufacturer and request them to mail you the OEM Software Recovery Media which originally came with the system. You may use live.com to search for the technical support for the manufacturer and either electronically submit a request or locate their number and call.
