How soon after bootup does the firewall give protection? RRS feed

I have heard that the Windows firewall activates when Windows starts.  Is this also true of Windows LiveOneCare?  My concern is that during the 30 seconds or so before the green LiveOneCare appears, is my computer at risk?  I have also noticed that once-in-a-while, for 2-3 seconds, during desktop bootup, a warning appears indicating that the Windows firewall is not working.  After the warning disappears, there appears to be no problem.  If protection does start at bootup, this is a distinct advantage of this firewall program over all others.  When I used McAfee, it took over two minutes to activate, but I never got an infection.

  • The OneCare firewall service starts along with the network service. It is enabled and active before your PC obtains the TCP information from your router.
