chkdsk stopped at 14% RRS feed

    my external hard drive became inaccessible either in windows or linux.
    i performed chkdsk g:/f/r on it and got stuck at 14% in the stage of 2/5(verifying indexes)..
    i let it do whole day but it remained here..
    what would be the problem?
    i have very important data on hard drive and i need all the data at any cost..
    what should i do now?

    While waiting for replies, google up data recovery or hard drive recovery professionals near you. Detach the driver from computer and do not try to do anything with the drive yourself.
