Difference between Categories and Tags RRS feed

  • Question

  • This is an utterly noobish question, so I apologize, but I haven't found the info I'm looking for after searching.

I'm using WLW to compose my Blogger-hosted blog, and I'm not exactly sure what the difference between 'categories' and 'tags' is. Entering keywords as 'categories' places them in my posts as 'Labels' which I believe is the Blogger word for tags. But WLW also asks me to add tags to my post. If I enter tags here and label them as Technorati tags, then these keywords actually appear at the end of my posts as 'Technorati Tags'.

Are these two separate things here, or do I need to be entering both categories and tags to each post?

  • Not a noobish question at all. It looks like (at least from this blog post) that your Blogger 'Label's will automatically get picked up as Technorati tags. So no, you do not need to add Technorati tags to your Blogger posts, although I'm sure it won't hurt your SEO to do so!
