CRM 4 and Office Outlook RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    I have 2 questions.

    1.        Suppose I have CRM server and CRM Client for Office Outlook installed and configured on the same server respectively. The client accesses CRM using the web client IE (Note : The client machine does not have Microsoft Office at all. That means, there is no CRM Client for Office Outlook on the client machine). If the client sends an email using the web client, will the email be sent?

    2.        Does CRM 4 work with Microsoft Outlook Express? (the free version of Microsoft Outlook)

    Some questions are really interesting.

  • Hi,

    I just found out.

Suppose we have a CRM server and CRM client for Office Outlook installed and configured on the server. The client machine (the user's machine) is not having neither Microsoft Office nor CRM client for Office Outlook but the CRM user has mentioned to use Outlook to send and receive emails.

Even though the user does not have Outlook at all in his machine, CRM will still send the email from the server (using the Outlook account which is setup on the server) provided the Outlook client is running on the server.

  • Hi Gagandeep,

Please find the answer to your questions below.

    >>1.        Suppose I have CRM server and CRM Client for Office Outlook installed and configured on the same server respectively. Depends on how the user account of the logged user sending the email is configured.
If the user is configured to send and recieve emails via outlook then the email will not be sent out. If the users account is configured to use the router it will be send out if the email router is configured.

No. You will need either Microsoft Office 2003 with SP3 or 2007 Microsoft Office system.

    Hope this helps.
    Hassan.

  • Hi Karan,

That's a good question you asked. Well, the logic is you only need one Office license for the server rather than on every client machine.

  • Gagan
My question is not related to licensing of office..
wat i asked is that if u install outlookclient setup on server i don think that it gonna work properly. and also there is no point installing it on server as end users are never going to access server

  • Hi Karan,

That's right, the user is not going to access the server, but when he uses the CRM web client (in this case IE) to send an email, the email will be sent to the recipient but from the Outlook account that is set on the server. i.e. the recipient will see the from address as the email account that is set on the server (mostly admin@companyname.com or noreply@companyname.com) and not the user's email ID.

So in this case the end user is not accessing the server but utilizing it.
    Cheers.
