On Vista SP1 does one have to install live mesh on each account? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I installed mesh under an admin user account, and it starts fine. But when I log into my standard user account, live mesh does not start or appear as a program anywhere. Is it necessary to install it on each  of the two accounts I use?  (I have UAC enabled).

  • Hi Bill,

Live Mesh installs on a per-user-account basis, so yes, you would need to install Live Mesh separately on each user account.  Please be aware, though, that we strongly discourage installing Live Mesh on a standard user account at this time.  You can do so, but the Live Mesh Remote Desktop features won't install (even after you provide your admin credentials), and you'll be prompted every day to "update" Live Mesh (which would be extremely annoying, I'd imagine).  We are working on this, but right now it's best to only install Live Mesh on admin accounts.

    I hope that helps,

    Ben.

  • Hi Ben, thanks for the note. Of course we're advised and do try to run only standard accounts here. Works no problem with XP but yes, occasionally on Vista we do get asked to update Live Mesh. That's no problem really but now at least I know why. I've always been so impressed that Live Mesh installs so easily on standard accounts and doesn't require a reboot or admin credentials - fantastic! Great stuff thanks. Now just waiting for the Live Mesh mobile client... At least we have http://m.mesh.com Best regards, Neil
