Restore RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just had to replace my laptop after it failed. I purchased a virtually identical laptop with Windows XP OS, same as my old laptop. I have installed all Windows updates and Windows Live OneCare. I have a current backup on an external hard drive. WLOC recognizes the hard drive, when I "Select the backup location"; When I "Select the backup you want to use to restore our files", the backup I want to use is listed. However, when I select this backup and click "next", I receive an error message, "! Restore cannot continue."

How can I restore mu files to a new PC?

    Thanks for your guidance.

  • First, make sure you are using a custom restore or restore from another computer, which I suspect that you are.

Some people have reported that the solution to this is to actually perform a small backup to the same external drive as you old backups. Select financial files, for example, or another file type that you don't have many of. It will create a backup folder on the external drive for the new PC and not touch the old backups.

Now, perform the restore function and select the old PC backup.
