Some Issues With MS Equipt RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi:

I just installed the MS Equipt package this past Sunday (December 14th) for the following programs:

    • MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
    • Windows Live Messaging
    • Windows One Care
    • etc.

(This is a one-year subscription for now which I bought at Circuit City this Saturday [December 13th] and will need to be renewed next December and the following December.)

For some reason, my Internet has been super slow afterward. I mean it takes up to 3 hours at times to go from one site to another, if it even works! This problem has been happening only since this past Sunday (when Equipt was installed). What could be the reason for this? (I'm surmizing that it has something to do with the Equipt installation process.)

Also, my Windows OneCare keeps showing that something needs to be done continuously to keep it in good hands, so to speak. That is, my icon shows that the OneCare status is "fair" (showing yellow). After performing whatever needs to be done (as indicated on the OneCare window), it still comes up with something else that has to be done. Why is that?

I would very much appreciate an answer to both these questions, as the problems should not continue.

    Thanks.

  • Hello Dave, typically if there are connectivity or performance issues after installing One Care the cause is conflicting software. If you have other antivirus, antispyware, or firewall applications installed uninstalling them should resolve the issue. Regarding the One Care "Fair" status I'm not really sure but it would help to know what the current and prior "actions to take" are/were to return your status to "Good".

  • I agree with Jim's assessment. It is likely that you are running OneCare with other security software still installed and active. You need to remove any other antivirus, antispyware, firewalls, and similar programs that provide real-time protection.
I'll also add that you can contact support for help with determining the cause of the problem. Based on the fact that OneCare continually goes to at risk status, it would seem to me that the conflict is crashing parts of OneCare.
