Hosted Edge Solution RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    I have been attempting to set up some type of Hosted Solution for OCS 2007, following are its details, however the question I pose is; Is it even possible to set up an edge solution in a hosted environment.  We are being led to belive this by our MS Partner account manager, as well as our other contacts within MS.

    I am getting this error from the Office Communicator Client now that everything is set up.

    EventID 1005;  Communicator was unable to locate the login server.  The DNS SRV record that exist for domain nphq.com.au point to an invalid server sip001.nphq.net.au which is not trusted to provide support for the domain because the server's domain is not an exact match.

    Resolution:

    The network administrator will need to double-check the DNS SRV record configuration to make sure that the SRV record for the domain points to a server name that conforms to the DNS naming convention in the server deployent guide.

    After reading carefully, the deployment guide states that the <domain> must match the certificate.  In other sections it alludes to having the <domain> match to the logon domain.

    Is it even possible to have a Hosted Edge Solution for our clients?

    Details:

    I have configured the following servers for our Internal Infrastucture, OCS 2007 Std Server, Archiving Server, Web Access Server, Archiving Server, Mediation Server.

    Within our hosting infrastructure the following have been deployed, an Access Edge Server, a Web Conferencing Server, and an A/V Edge Server.

    Hosting Network: nphq.net.au

    Internal Network: nphq.com.au

    Following is the configuration for the SIP records within DNS.

    > server 172.16.0.50

    Default Server:  dns002.nphq.net.au

    Address:  172.16.0.50

    > set type=srv

    > _sip._tls.nphq.com.au

    Server:  dns002.nphq.net.au

    Address:  172.16.0.50

    _sip._tls.nphq.com.au   SRV service location:
              priority       = 0
              weight         = 0
              port           = 443
              svr hostname   = sip001.nphq.net.au

    sip001.nphq.net.au      internet address = 172.17.13.243

    *Please note the difference here being that the Internal Network's _sip._tls record is pointing to the Hosted network's sip Server.... ie. _sip._tls.nphq.com.au is pointing to sip001.nphq.net.au.

  • This is still an issue within OCS 2007 RTM.

    This seems to be by design. All clients must run their own edge services, and the certificates and domain name must be the same as their domain name they are advertising within OCS.

  • Can you update this post? Is this still an issue with the RTM version?
