This is not great business practice. What are you talking about? ALL editions of Vista can play WAV files. You should repost your problem with a LOT more detail in a more appropriate forum, such as the Vista Multimedia Answers forum here....

what is the point of the superior save in the windows only format, and not in the universal format of wave?

please answer the question word for word without paraphrasing, because you are changing the meaning of the question.

the natural format to save music is not in the wave file extension.

On the contrary - the WAV format is the default of ALL sounds in Windows - all others formats require decoders which may or may not be included in teh OS.
I suggest that you actually read teh help files included in Media Player, and the OS.

If you're talking about using WMA format for saving, it's quite simple - WMA files are compressed in one way or another - and can contain extra information such as artist and title.
WAV files are not compressed, and cannot contain such extra information.
