Project server 2010 install requirements..

Question

Excuse my ignorance and I think I may know the answer already but is it required that I have Sharepoint 2010 installed in order to install Project 2010? The reason I ask is that when I asked the licensing rep at company I am ordering through he gave a vague answer. The install is for only 4 people and of course cost is always an issue.Friday, January 6, 2012 7:27 PM

Hi,
Project Server 2010 is based on top of Sharepoint 2010, infact its a service enabled on sharepoint platform
you need to install sharepoint 2010 first, and then you can install project server 2010. But in case of licnesing, if you install sharepoint 2010 only for PS2010 then you only have to buy a PS2010 license. for more details you can see this EPM 2010 Licensing guide, the first link on the page can let you download the guide: http://search.microsoft.com/results.aspx?form=MSHOME&mkt=en-us&setlang=en-us&q=Microsoft%20Enterprise%20Project%20Management%202010%20Licensing%20Guide
hope this helps.

Hi,
for Project Server 2010, SharePoint Server 2010 Enterprise is required.
For usage of Project client (Standard and Professional) without Project Server, you will not need any SharePoint Server.
