Windows XP Upgrade Now Conterfeit????? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I purchased a Toshiba with Windows Home XP in June 2006.  To run my industrial software I was required to upgrade to XP Pro.  I purchased the Upgrade from a retailer in September 2006 and have been using it ever since.  Now my system comes up and says it is possibly counterfeit.  As the purchase was from a national retailer, I do not know how this could be.  I do not know what my options are.

    Please advise.

    Thank you.

  • Hello psicoltd,

First, try the Product Key Updater Utility:  http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=45668

When it asks for the new Product Key, use the PK that came in the XP Pro retail upgrade package, printed on a yellow-orange label.

If no joy, please run this utility:  http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012.  Click the Copy button to copy to clipboard, then come back here, make a reply, and paste the full report into the reply.
