Quick Find not returning complete set of results RRS feed

  • I am experiencing some very odd behavior with the Quick Find functionality. 

    In this example I have an account with two contacts attached to it. From the account I have modified the search fields on the quick find view to return accounts based on the the attached contacts first name, last name, full name etc.

    The search works fine for most accounts but not for all. I have narrowed it down to it is not returning results for certain business units. I am doing the search from a user that exists in the parent business unit which therefore has read access to all records. 

    Upon further research I discovered I can have all results returned when using a wild card. However I find it odd that I can return expected results without this wild card from certain business units but not others. 

    Has anyone come across similar behavior or have an idea of why this might be occurring?
