HPC Pack 2012 -- Latest supported version of SQL Server ?

    Question

  • I have HPC Pack 2012 with latest update installed (KB3189996). Lately I am seeing SQL Server process hogging the memory. I was wondering if I could update the SQL Server (Express) 2014 that was installed by HPC installer. If I can, what is the latest supported version of SQL Server Express 2014 (SPx?/CUx?) that I can install?

  • SQL Server Express 2014 shall work for HPC Pack 2012.

But please be noted that, if you have fair large workloads in the HPC Pack cluster and have a cluster that have more than dozens of compute nodes, we would recommend you upgrade to SQL standard/Enterprise, and if possible to have a dedicate remote SQL server so that the headnode is not too stressed.

    as defined at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2936603/sql-server-2014-build-versions
