My product key is not valid for this region

Question

Hi Everybody
I have the same problem as a lot of people at the moment. I had problems with my laptop and could not find my original disc. I bought an XP disc off the internet and installed it with the product key provided.
Unfortunately when I came to validate, I got the Product key not valid.
I ran the Diagnostic tool, results below. What I dont understand is the Product key it says is invalid is not the one I had typed in.
Any help appreciated
Regards John

Hello JSoapy0,
If the key that came with your software is not the same as the key being shown in the Diagnostic Report, I recommend that you switch to the key that came with the software. You can try to do that using the Product Key Update Tool (http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/XPPkuinst.aspx) but if the tool does not work (for any reason) the only other option is to reinstall XP using the key that came with the software.
Note: We have seen Pirated Software that when you install it, it automaticly places a Invalid VLK into the XP install and the product Key that came in the packaging with the software is just a bunch of random number that won't be accepted.
If the Product Key that came in the packaging with the software is either not accepted or also comes up as non-genuine, contact the person or company that sold you the software and demand the Genuine Microsoft Software, that you paid for. I also encourage you to submit a Piracy Report at http://microsoft.com/piracy
Thank you,

Hello danvino,
Right now, your computer has a Volume Licensing edition of XP Pro installed (Line 10), and that installation was done with a now-geographically blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK) (Line 2). VLKs are blocked by Microsoft at the request of the original key holder for such reasons as the key was lost, stolen, compromised, misused, or expired. Also, Microsoft may have blocked the key if it notices a pattern of misuse, i.e., more installations of XP using that key than authorized.
A geographically blocked key is blocked when it is detected in use outside of the worldwide geographic area(s) covered by its Volume Licensing Agreement. The particular Product Key you are using, which ends in 3R89F-D2KXW-VPK3J, is a widely pirated key, and it looks like it recently had a geographic block put on it to try to curb its use, which probably explains why it was showing as Genuine up until recently. As a rule, VL editions of XP should not be sold to individual consumers. Businesses, schools and governments normally use VL editions for flexibility in installing many computers. Additionally, VL editions are Upgrade licenses ONLY, and therefore cannot be used as the primary or base license for a computer.
This is why you were seeing the "software counterfeiting" messages on your computer, because the current installation of XP is an unauthorized installation.
Look on the computer or in the materials that came with your computer to see if you have a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA). If you have one, tell us about the CoA. Tell us:1. What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or another version or edition of Windows?
2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?
3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?
4. DO NOT post the Product Key printed on the CoA.
5. Windows XP purchased in retail packaging will have the CoA on the retail package box top, and will have the Product Key on a yellow-orange label affixed to the CD holder folder inside the box.
Not sure what to look for? Click here: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/en/coa.mspx
You also have a problem with your installation of Office.
Here is a snippet of the report that pertains to Office:
OGA Data-->
Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2
Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage - 114 Blocked VLK 2
OGA Version: N/A, 0x80070002
Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002
Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-230-1
Regarding your installation of Microsoft Office XP with Front Page, it is also a blocked Volume Licensing installation that was likely blocked due to such reasons as the key was lost, stolen, compromised, misused, or expired. Also, Microsoft may have blocked the key if it notices a pattern of misuse, i.e., more installations of Office using that key than authorized. Volume Licensing copies of Office XP are not to be sold to individual consumers, as the use of these licenses is subject to a Volume Licensing Agreement that can be limited or cancelled at any time, thus leaving the consumer "high and dry" without the software they paid for. If you purchased this copy of Office XP with Front Page thinking it was a retail copy authorized to be sold to individual consumers, you may be a victim of software counterfeiting. If so, you will want to return it to the place of purchase and demand the retail software you paid for, or a refund of your money.
