  • Question

  • Following the recent site maintenance..

Pretty please can we make a submission/sacrifice/whatever's required at the Forum God shrine to not have focus placed in the Bing search field in the upper right on initial display of all forum lists and forum posts?.

It's kinda frustrating having to use the mouse to be able to then page up/down home/end after every Ctrl-R refresh. Plus, not always running the page wide enough to show the field, so it kinda borks that scenario too.

It also seems to disrupt the browsers ability to restore position after a refresh.

I figure this is what's changed in the recent update that's causing this behaviour.

    Many thanks :)

  • I certainly hope something can be done so that when I use the back button to return from a thread to the list of threads in a forum, the display is not scrolled back to the top every time. Having to scroll back down to where I was is getting old.

  • Yea, I even find while scrolling down through posts that are still loading, the focus is moved to the field when I'm part way through reading.

    This is quite disruptive.

Please, just remove the focus completely.

I can understand doing this on bing.com, where 99.99% of usage cases upon loading the page is to do a search and the page is very lightweight for a fast load, but that is far from the case when browsing forums, writing questions, reading posts, refreshing to see new comments on a thread, refreshing the list to see new posts, etc, etc.

  • Cross linking related thread. More people seem to be steadily finding there way here to report this problem. Refer Vincenzo's observation of this causing the problems first reported in the other thread.

Can the Forums be made compatible with Internet Explorer like they are for Google Chrome and Apple Safire

  • also:   Bing search textbox getting focus automatically  and  Last Reply quit working for me

it seems any link containing a  #fragment  opens correctly, but then repaints to the top of the page.   for example, check your links in My Profile.

  • Has anyone at Microsoft even admitted a problem. At this point I am waiting for a Steve Jobs type of answer; "Just avoid holding it in that way."

  • No comment at this stage unfortunately. Hard to tell if this forums being monitored or not. I haven't looked through other posts in the forum to see if there is any pattern in how these are handled either.

I cross posted here just in case that will help with visibility.

Waiting for this feature to go ASAP. We not need to bing every now and then. That would have been useful if we searched a lot. For regular users its an annoyance.
