This Copy of Windows is not genuine - Message RRS feed

  • Question

  • A Gateway desktop... 4 Dual code, 6GB memory...
Runing Windows 7 Ultimate since 2009.
As soon as I purchased this machine and got it home, I did an anytime upgrade from the Microsoft store to Windows 7 Ultimate. The recipt is locked up in my MS Outlook which will not open now.

    Summary;
A few days ago Windows Security Essientals reported 3 Trojans and I requested it remove them. I think it removed them as I requested. I Rebooted. Now it keeps telling me that it has to run chkdsk everytime I reboot. I Followed all the instructions to correct this issue. (Ran chkdsk /R /X; Checked registry entry for boot)

Ran Symantec's web based virus detection and it locked up for 3 hours on one file. (Sorry - I did not write down the file name). A storm made us lose power, when it rebooted it now says my PC says that "This copy of Windows is not genuine". I have ran (on a elevated cmd.exe) SFC /scannow. It reported it fixed corrupted files - open CBS.log. When I try to open it, it tells me I do not have privledges to open.  I tried to "Change product key" and it reported an error.

This is a very unusual error - and I'm not sure exactly which service it's referring to, since the more common services give rise to a very different error message if they cannot start.

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands....

    SC QUERYEX SPPSVC
    SC QUERYEX SPPUINOTIFY
    SC QUERYEX TRUSTEDINSTALLER
    SC QUERYEX WMIACPI
    SC QUERYEX VSS
    NET START SPPSVC
    NET START SPPUINOTIFY
    NET START TRUSTEDINSTALLER
    NET START WMIACPI
    NET SATART VSS
    NET START EVENTLOG
    NET START EVENTSYSTEM

    post the results.

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)

    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.
