    Hi,

I've had vista installed for 6 months and suddenly Windows Update/Defender/One Care cant connect to the internet to get updates. Even when trying to validate i get the errors

    Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Results
    Passed Active scripting allowed
    Passed Display images enabled
Passed Computer time and date correct
    Passed ActiveX enabled
    Failed Windows validation ActiveX loaded
    Failed Office validation ActiveX loaded
    Failed Validation Self-help ActiveX loaded

The error listed is 8024402C but i've tried the listed things to do (Lan connection settings), but i want to try and re-install the activex stuff to see if that works but i'm not sure what to do.

    Any help would be awesome.

    Wes.

Well its finally working. I was thinking about the details listed under that specific error code and its use of proxies. I decided to test a public proxy i was using about a month ago when my ISP proxy was down. I punched in that proxy and all worked fine. But i need to have that proxy in the LAN connections for it to work, if i take it out it doesnt work

All a bit bizarre to me!

    Hi Wesilling,

What happens when you click the "Resolve Now" button on the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Results page?

    Thanks,

    Hi Darin,

It goes to the page where it says about "Adjust IE security settings for ActiveX control behavior". Unfortunately the installation control bar never appears even when i click on "try installation again". No matter how many times i refresh that page the installation never comes up.

    Thanks.

    Wes.

  • Hi Wesilling,

It sounds like you may not be logged in to your computer under an account that has admin privileges, but I can't be positive that's the issue without some additional information.

Would you download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool ( http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 ), then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a response message in this thread? This should help me get a better idea what could be causing this.

    Thank you,

  • Thanks for being so prompt Darin!
