How to make a hard copy disk of the Sunset Money version for my computer for possible future use.

Question
-
I currently have a hard copy of the retail USA version of Microsoft Money 2007 Premium. That is the version I have on my Vista computer and have used since the Fall of 2006. My data files go back to 1995 and are backed up on both my hard drive and my external 256MB stick drive. I plan to continue using this arrangement indefinately into the future realizing I will not have online access after January 31, 2011.
I want to create a hard copy back-up and a download to my Vista computer of the Sunset version so in the future I have a back-up to continue using Microsoft Money if problems develop with Money 2007 or I get a new computer. I assume the download of Sunset to my computer's hard drive is a straight forward process from the Microsoft site as linked here in one of the early threads. I do not intend to open or use this file unless I have problems with Money 2007 in the future. The creation of a hard disk copy of the Sunset program, similar to the hard disk copy of Money 2007 I currently have is what I want to accomplish and what I need some help with. Can someone explain IN DETAIL the steps I need to take once I download the Sunset program into my computer? I appreciate this. Thank you. Steve

It's just a file like any other. When you download it, not where you tell the browser file save to put it. Then back it up as you back up any other important data file you have. I don't know what you mean by "hard copy" backup. When you need it, you execute the file to install it. This is also just like you'd do with other downloaded installable files.
Basic computer use and data protection is well beyond the scope of what the forum can do and beyond the scope of what user-to-user forum interactions can teach effectively.

Thanks Dick. I guess what I want to do is download the Sunset version to a new file on my harddisk called Money Sunset. Then, copy that file to my external 256MB stick drive. Download size of Sunset is stated as 34 MB and all I keep on the stick is the last three copies of my money data file so I should be OK. Thanks again. SteveWednesday, June 16, 2010 3:28 PM

A flash stick is probably OK. A quick google search suggests that some have concern over long term/archival storage on flash but I certainly didn't find any quantitiative data or comparisons to, say, CD-R.Thursday, June 17, 2010 2:59 AMModerator

I guess I could burn the file to a CD too. I have some time to think about it. I assume the download will be available here until January 31, 2011. Thanks Dick.

Let's hope it will be here long after that. I'm sure many people won't find out they need it until long past then.Friday, June 18, 2010 4:00 AMModerator
