thumbnails in remote access...

Question

When viewing photo's from a remote site, it would be really handy to get a small thumbnail rather than the standard file icon... if you're like me, and never rename any files from the digital cameras default filenames, it all gets a bit difficult to know which file you want to view/download...
Does that make any sense?

In my opinion very much, I support this suggestion fully!!!!Saturday, May 5, 2007 9:17 AM

I agree, it should be,
it will be nice to have an option to enable and disable this function
also having an option to chose the size/quality of the thumb is a most.

I completely agree too.
We all have 10s of thousands of images these days and checking to see whats new is pointless. Not to mention a few dupilcates here and there if its the kids.
This is currently my biggest pain.

Displaying a thumbnail could create a potential security risk. In order to create the thumbnails an image handler would have to read each image. (And we all know how secure the image handlers are.)

Isn't this feature already built into the Windows shell? I would envision something like Thumbnail view in Windows Explorer for this, so I don't see anything extra needed, just leveraging what's already there.

You can't as standard, but one of the guys here has created a great add-on, see http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsHomeServer/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1706788&SiteID=50 or grab it from http://www.andrewgrant.org/whiist and the how-to http://www.andrewgrant.org/2007/06/09/how-to-create-a-windows-home-server-photo-album-in-minutes.html
