WHS 2011 Connector installation problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • On a Windows 7 64-bit computer, I uninstalled the WHS 1 connector using Windows uninstall. When I attempt to install the WHS 2011 Connector, I'm told that it can't install because there is another installation running or a reboot is needed. WHS 2011 is installed on a new server. The old WHS 1 server is disconnected. Upon many cold and warm boots, the the same message is received preventing installation of the Connector. Any ideas how to get the 2011 Connector installed?

  • That looks like a known issue. Please refer another thread http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/whsvailbeta/thread/a90b4679-d2dc-4820-94f0-dce22da245a4. Hope it will be helpful.

  • The referenced problem description is the same. However, after mking the registry change recommended and rebooting both the server and client, the probloem still persists. So much for the 2011 Connector.

  • The problem found to be in the registry --> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager. Removing "PendingFileRename" fixed the problem allowing connector installation.
