  • Please download and install the latest WGA file on the computer in question:

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/3/3/533a40be-936b-4267-b043-2f04233a78a6/WindowsXP-KB905474-ENU-x86.exe

    Afterward, visit : www.microsoft.com/genuine.

    If validation fails again:

    1. Download and run the MGA Diagnostic Tool:   http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

    2. After running the MGA Diagnostic Tool, click
on the "Windows" tab and then click on "Copy".

    3. Next, visit the following website and create a post in the
"WGA Validation Problems" forum and paste the
results of the WGA Diagnostic Data in a detailed post.

    http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/default.aspx?SiteID=25

    4. A WGA troubleshooting specialist will analyze the data and
        recommend an appropriate solution.

  • It appears the computer is a Compaq PC which is running a corrupt "Volume License" version of Windows XP Professional that is likely an illegal copy.  I would suggest using Compaq's method to perform a "destruction recovery" in order to reinstall the original "genuine" Windows XP Home Edition operating system.

Read the following article thoroughly, then follow the steps outlined to perform a "destructive" recovery operation:

  • JB-PT,

You will need to contact technicial support and explain the current situation which you are experiencing. In turn order the recovery software media should you not currently not have the original media which came with the machine.

Recovery Software CD’s are specific to your computer manufacturer. Please contact your manufacturer for assistance. They should be able to assist with your request and/or questions. Since the telephone number and web sites are not maintained by Microsoft we cannot make any warranty as to their validity.

I have included their contact information here for your convenience:
