Will Money Sunset overwrite MS 2001

Question

HI, I have an elderly copy of MS Money 2001, and it's fine.
Thinking of trying Money Sunset, if I download & install it will it overwrite / delete my MSM 2001 installation?.
I am UK, I read that Sunset will not read my files. I'm OK with this, but can I copy files via a qif format?
Thanks for all help

It is possible to have more than one year installed at a time. You
have to pay close attention during install to select to not have Money
Sunset uninstall the earlier version during install. The only caveats I can think of are the last-installed is set up
Give the 2001 and Money Plus descriptive filenames so that you will
with the file associations, so when you download an OFX or QIF, the
last installed gets fed the file. To feed the file to both, save
the file to disk, and do File->Import to both. Just clicking a
link sends the file to the last-installed. You could manually
adjust the associations, or could reinstall 2001 to reset the
associations. You could also make a restore point before the Plus
install, and restoring that should restore the associations.
not try to open the wrong version file.
To avoid transfers from turning into two separate transactions, it
is important to import the QIFs into the new file all at once.
This is done by selecting using Ctrl+<click> to highlight all of
the files you want included. Further, before doing the import,
the QIF files containing the investment cash accounts
should be named something alphanumerically higher than the
investment transactions of the account. So you could have
"Merrill" and "Merrill Cash", but you would not want "Merrill Inv"
and "Merrill Cash". "_Merrill Inv" and "Merrill Cash" would be
good. So one way around this is to export investment accounts to
files whose name starts with an underscore.- Edited by Cal LearnerModerator Tuesday, July 26, 2016 2:52 PM

Thanks this helps. My intention is to run the 2 versions in parallel for awhile, decide which I prefer, then abandon the other.
Thanks again

Take notes, particularly regarding the point where Plus defaults to uninstalling the old version, and you select to not do so. Describe that to help others that may want to run dual installations in the future.Tuesday, July 26, 2016 4:00 PMModerator

The latest UK version is Money 2005 UK QFE2. See the second post in this forum for a download link, and be careful to install to a different location than Money 2001 if you want to run it in parallel. Money 2005 UK will read and update your Money 2001 data file and create a backup of the Money 2001 file. The updated data file will not be readable by Money 2001.
Note that if you want to run both in parallel you will need separate .mny data files and will need to enter transactions in both and keep separate .mbf backup files.
