In the properties it was marked for delayed start but was stopped. I attemped to start it and received this message:

Windows could not start the software protection service on local computer

Error 2" the system cannot find the file specified.

There are two reasons (that I know of) to get that error when trying to start that Service.

    1) The file is missing
    or
    2) The registry entry that tells Windows where to find that file is malformed (or missing altogether).

Please check that the file C:\Windows\System32\sppsvc.exe exists (indications are that it does, as otherwise it should be listed as a File Mismatch under File Scan Data)

If not, then the problem is almost certainly in the registry - which could be complex to fix in the forums. If you want to take it off-forum, please email me at  ngs AT crashfixpc DOT co DOT uk  (make the obvious changes), and we can try and deal with it one-one.

Otherwise,  I recommend contacting assisted support at one of the below URL, for further assistance.

  • See if any system files can be repaired to correct this.

Click Start, type 'cmd' in the Search/Run box, and right click on the CMD icon at the top of the results pane.  Select Run as Administrator.  When the cmd window opens type 'sfc /scannow' at the prompt and hit Enter.  When the scan completes close the cmd window.

  • Thanks for the quick response. I ran it before and again just now and Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations. Any ideas?

Your problem is that the Software Protection Service is not running
    Please try the following:
    Click on the Start button
    In the Search box, type
    SERVICES.MSC
    and hit the Enter key
Accept the UAC prompt, if you get one, and the Services Console will appear.
Look down the list for the Software Protection Service
right-click on it, and select Properties
In the Startup type  section, it should say 'Automatic(delayed start)'  - If not, then set it that way, and click Apply
Select the Start button to attempt to start the service - what happens?
If the service fails to start, what is the EXACT error message?
Reboot - allow a few minutes for the system to settle down, and run a new MGADiag report, and post the result here

This thread is now being worked off-forum - if we get lucky and manage to fix it, I'll post back :)
