Windows XP Professional CD - is it 32 or 64 bit? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Long story short, I lost my XP CD and got one from a friend. I have a product key already but I cannot seem to find if this CD is 32 or 64 bit. I did a little research and found that it should say it on the readme.htm file in the disk, but mine does not....

Is it safe to say that I have a 32 bit disc? I only have 32-bit compatible hardware so installing this would do me no good.

    Thanks

  • A windows XP 64-bit CD is extremely rare.  You likely have a 32-bit disc.

  • The reason why I am asking is because his job only uses XP Pro x64 and they had this disk laying around for him to have. If it doesn't say I am going to assume it is x86 since, like you said, it is extremely rare (which means it should be noted).

  • The disk will always state either x64 or 64-bit on it, if it's a genuine MS 64-bit disk.
