My Windows XP is Genuine-loaded on my PC when purchased from Lenovo RRS feed

  • Question

  • Help! My Windows XP and Office were installed on my Laptop when it was purchased from Lenovo. I have had my laptop for 5 years and I have not had any problems. It has never been in for repairs and no one else has used my Laptop out of my sight. My copy of Woindows is Genuine-loaded and installed when I purchased the laptop,  but I keep getting the message stating it is not a genuine copy of Microsoft. I am very frustrated with Microsoft at the moment. This is outragous! What do i do now? How can I notify Microsoft of this???

I have run the diagnostic test and the results are below. I have removed the product key as suggested in another post. I do not see and COA on the test. Help!!!! Any helpful input is appreciated!

    Thank you!!!!

  • Hello O'Malley,

As a point of information, all three of the Office family products installed on your computer are Volume Licensing versions of Office family programs.

In the extract of your report pasted below, the PID value of "640" and the the PID Type of "14" indicate that these are Volume Licensing installations.

    ><Products><Product GUID="{90110409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}"><LegitResult>114</LegitResult><Name>Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003</Name><Ver>11</Ver><Val>59D1605114E3500</Val><Hash>vfZmaSmFPIYrLWTcZSZErUQg+Fo=</Hash><Pid>73931-640-0000106-57806</Pid><PidType>14</PidType></Product><Product GUID="{90170409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}"><LegitResult>100</LegitResult><Name>Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003</Name><Ver>11</Ver><Val>5EA9C3672EB0500</Val><Hash>GZD+9sfb5ecL3RxyV4F75a86u2M=</Hash><Pid>72079-640-0000106-55896</Pid><PidType>14</PidType></Product><Product GUID="{90510409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}"><LegitResult>100</LegitResult><Name>Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003</Name><Ver>11</Ver><Val>5EA9C3672EB0500</Val><Hash>GZD+9sfb5ecL3RxyV4F75a86u2M=</Hash><Pid>72085-640-0000106-55396</Pid><PidType>14</PidType></Product></Products><Applications><App Id="15" Version="11" Result="114"/><App Id="16" Version="11" Result="114"/><App Id="17" Version="11" Result="100"/><App Id="18" Version="11" Result="114"/><App Id="19" Version="11" Result="114"/><App Id="1A" Version="11" Result="114"/><App Id="1B" Version="11" Result="114"/><App Id="44" Version="11" Result="114"/><App Id="51" Version="11" Result="100"/></Applications></Office></Software></GenuineResults>

FrontPage 2003 and Vision 2003 are reporting as Genuine, but that would only true if the computer displaying this report were associated with the organization (larger business, educational institution, govt agency, etc) that holds the Volume Licensing Agreement and the product key for these products issued under the VLA.  Any other use of these product keys is a nongenuine use.

Did you purchase the computer brand new directly shipped from Lenovo?  Or did you purchase from a retail store, dealer, or Value Added Reseller (VAR)?  Did you purchase Office, Front Page, and Visio in retail packages at the same time you purchased the computer?  Or were all of these programs already installed when the computer was handed to you?

The problem appears not to be with Windows - but with Office.
Your installation of Office is of a common counterfeit copy stolen from MS itself - and blocked then.

You need to uninstall it and install a genuine copy.

  • Noel,

Thanks for your input and yes, the problem is with Microsoft Office. The copy is not a counterfrit copy stolen from MS as it was installed when I purchased my Laptop from Lenovo. Are you saying Lenovo is selling a counterfeit copy of MS Office? I would love to reinstall Office but since it came preloaded, I guess that that not possible. If I had a copy of Office it would be the same genuine copy I PURCHASED from Microsoft five years ago when I bought my computer. Is it common to purchase a computer with counterfeit Office from a well known company with a good reputation like Lenovo?

All I'm saying is that the current install is using a Blocked Key - it is possible that the original install has been wiped at some time and reinstalled using a non-genuine Key, either by 'repair shop' or a misguided friend. If Office was installed by the manufacturer, it would have come as an OEM install, with the Key on separate documentation for Office.

  • Thank you very much for your help and for the information. I did purchase my laptop from Lenovo 5 years ago with MS Office installed. I did not purchase or add Front Page or Visio later; they were all installed at the same time at the time of purchase. I do not believe I have ever given my laptop to anyone else to do repairs as noted earlier. I have no idea what this all means, but I am very frustrated. I can not locate my original laptop receipt so I have no way of going back to Lenovo to settle this with them.

I sincerely apprecaite your help but I still at a loss. It does not seem llike a wise investment to purchase MS Office AGAIN for a 5 year old computer. Grrrrr......... Thank you, OMalley

  • Hello O"Malley,

Did you purchase the computer brand new directly shipped from Lenovo in its original, sealed box?  Or did you purchase from a retail store, dealer, or Value Added Reseller (VAR)?

What installation discs do you have for Office?
